Ramos Pinto Ruby Port & newspaper
Ramos Pinto Ruby Port & newspaper : Description
Ramos-Pinto’s wood-aged ports are blended from several vintages and several quintas. Unlike the majority of port houses, Ramos-Pinto owns almost all of its own vineyards and controls the grape quality from pruning to harvest. After fermentation, the wines are transported down the Douro River to Vila Nova de Gaia, where they are aged in wood casks for three to seven years before being bottled and shipped. Air exposure is avoided in order to prevent oxidation and preserve the wine’s youthful ruby-red hue. This method of wine maturation also retains the wine’s deep fruit aromas and flavours, allowing it to be both velvety and youthful. This wine is ready to enjoy now and does not require further aging.
The Ramos-Pinto Ruby has a much denser, redder colour than the Tawny. An abundance of cherry, blackberry, plum, and raspberry aromas greet the nose. On the palate it is fresh, vibrant and fruity. The attack is much more voluminous than the Tawny’s, due to its youthfulness. The finish is persistent and aromatic, with lingering rich fruit flavours.
